Star Trek: First Black Actress Who Didn't Play A Slave or Servant

In the 1960's an actress named Nichelle Nichols was cast as Lieutenant Uhura in the original StarTrek series. Until then, all black actress' were only cast as servants or slaves. This truly was a barrier breaker in television. She also shared Star Trek's first interracial kiss with Captain Kirk.
